Aesthetic treatment can improve health and self-awareness

Your natural teeth and soft  tissue:   gingiva, tongue, muscles are highly complex successful organs and any artificial  replacement  is usually less  effective    in the  long  run.

Extractions are basically  a  breakage of the jaw   and  not  to be  considered  a  simple  treatment because  of  possible  complications eg  infection ,pain, damage  to  other  teeth , permanent    damage  to  nerve , severe  blood  loss, fainting  or    even  heart attack  /stroke if  drugs are  stopped  for  the dental   treatment.

Stress   leads  to  tooth  clenching    or  grinding that    leads  to  tooth  fracture,   gum  recession ,  pain , headaches  , backaches ,sensitivity  to  cold ,  and  ultimately  to  loss  of  teeth  due  to  bone  loss.    ..Most  Israelis   live   with   some   unreasonable  amount  of  stress  ..( as do  their  dentists). The most  common  treatments are crowns ,splinting  of  teeth with  crowns  or  reinforced  fillings  to  replace  lost  teeth  to   spread the bite  load and  improve  aesthetics.

Tooth  decay  can  be  due  to   inefficient  cleaning  but  also  to   low   natural  strength  of  teeth  due  to  calcium   loss   due to  pregnancy, diet ( inefficient   diet   or  excess  sugars) ,  or certain   diseases weakening the  bone support  naturally,  or   because  of  medical  treatment eg. radiotherapy.

Treating   the   decay  while  it  is  small and  easy saves the  need for more  expensive root  canal and  crown  treatment.

Gingival  disease can  be avoided  if  treated and preventive  measures are  used as  needed.

WHAT  TREATMENTS ARE  IMPROVED WITH  LASERS?……..(Each laser  has  specific  properties   so  several different types of  lasers are  used within  our   office).

.In general  surgery  with  lasers is  easy  for the doctor ….. what  you  see  is  what  you  get.

Fillings,   especially  tooth  coloured  ones  will    be  minimal in  size (about  30%  smaller due  to  accuracy, technique   and sterility  of  laser  treatments) and  have  elements  that  give an  active  defence against tooth  decay (400%  increase  in  formation  of  secondary  dentine).

Root canal  treatments ( more  accurately  called  treatments in the nerve area in the  tooth)   can  save  teeth  that  otherwise  would  be  extracted because unlike   normal treatments  that  are  unable  to  remove about 50% of the  bacteria   laser  treatment  removes  close   to  100% of the  bacteria  as a  standard).

Lasers   easily  allow  for   removal  of   infected or  excess   gum  tissue that  may  prevent  observation  of the  area  to  be  treated (without lasers  gingival   surgery  can  be   expensive,  painful  and   prevent  immediate   treatment  of  the  root   canal due to  bleeding  or delayed  healing).

. HOW  LASERS   HELP IN MAKING  GOOD  DENTAL  TREATMENT  BETTER.

  1. FILLINGS  ARE    SMALLER  AND  BETTER   .Laser treatment  allows the  filling to be  30%  smaller,a filling  doesn't  last   for   ever (  usually   6  to  10  years  depending  on   its  location). Usually  there  is  no desire  for an  injection  by  the  patient , and because there  is  no  anesthetic  the  height  of the  filling  is  correct to the  bite with  less  risk  of  breakage, fracture  or  sensitivity  leading  to  root canal  treatment.

2.The  sterility  of the   treatment  aids the dentist to decide  just to remove  the decayed area  and sterilize               the  rest of the  cavity.

In addition, the   ability  to  see and   treat  is improved  with the  laser and  reduces  mistakes   (note that                the  bur   continues  to  drill even  after the pedal  is  disengaged unlike the  laser that  allows great                          control on  when and  how  fast  you  remove    tissue).

Tooth  coloured  fillings are    chemically  bonded  to the  tooth and  lasers  increase the  bond       (  metal               amalgam  fillings  require  much  more  tooth to  be  sacrificed   for a  mechanical  bond with a mercury                   leak and  more  tooth  sensitivity  to  cold and  so are  rarely  recommended).

3.Root  canals:  the  first  problem  is  to  find and  open the  small area of the   entry   to the  canal and  to                 sterilize  it . Using  lasers  we  can ,according to  medical  literature , reach  100%   sterility.  Without                       lasers  you  reach   about  50% sterility. The laser  anesthetizes  the tooth against  pain  during  treatment.

4.Lasers are a  great   help  if  surgery  is  needed on  soft  tissues and  help  reduce  after  treatment  pain,               increase  bone  growth , reduce  infection, increase  healing  by formation of natural  healing  factors at the             cell level and stop  bleeding.  Thus  rarely are   life  saving  coagulant medicines   stopped  for dental                       treatment.

  1. Lasers    treat  using  a  single wavelength  of    light that  sterilize and react  with  specific   materials  such            as  hard  tissue eg. tooth  or  bone   or  soft  tissue such as  gingiva (gum). ( Diode lasers also activate                    whitening  materials).

Eryag and  Co2  lasers  don't   touch the  tissues ,  Diodes sometimes   do so within the treatments  when  it          is advantageous  to  do  so…… we  use  several  different  types  of  lasers  within  one treatment,                            BENEFITING FROM THE  SPECIAL ABILITIES  OF  EACH  KIND.
